Why Participate in the Handbell Choir?

Enhance Liturgical Celebrations:

Membership in the St. Sebastian Handbell Choir offers a unique and beautiful way to enhance the Mass by supporting and sustaining the singing of the assembly and adding to the solemnity and beauty of the Mass.

Musical Enrichment:

Handbells provide a different musical style and texture to the Mass, creating a richer and more diverse soundscape.

Community Building:

Membership in the St. Sebastian Handbell Choir is a rewarding experience for it’s participants. The group emphasizes teamwork, musical growth and creates a community of gifted bell ringers.

Opportunities for Musical Growth:

Participation in the St. Sebastian Handbell Choir provides opportunities for the improvement of music reading skills, as well as the development of handbell ringing skills.

Instrumentation:

The St. Sebastian Handbell Choir uses a 4 octave set of Malmark Handbells, a 5 octave set of Yamaha Handchimes, and occasionally other percussion instruments such as timpani, windchimes and drums.

Performance Opportunities:

The St. Sebastian Handbell choir rings at select weekend Masses, special liturgies, concerts, and other parish events.

Who Can Become a Member of the St. Sebastian Handbell Choir?

Membership is open to anyone with a desire to make music, and the maturity to enjoy rehearsals that last about an hour. Music reading skills are helpful but not required. If you can sing it, you can ring it!

The St. Sebastian Handbell Choir rehearses several weeks prior to a ringing event, usually on Sunday afternoon. The choir also rehearses one hour before Masses where the handbells ring. The season runs from October through June.
